OK another clue is in order perhaps. There was another class which was very similar to this one but worked in a different area and underwent a change later in its life that this class did not.

Well done! Could only run on 1500V DC lines, never carried set numbers, and were among the earliest classes to have sliding doors. The 306s were very similar but were converted to 25kV AC later in their lives.

The two above are on the right lines, but not quite there, think after 18000 and before APT. Another Clue..... Exept for my wheel arrangement I look similar to a locomotive that was mass produced by the same company as me, but i have an extra bit on the back of me. The mass produced locomotive is still in service.

This unit is unlike my last unit, i.e. the 360, in nearly every way - except for it being an electric. In particular, this unit is not so easily forgotten about! It is or was deployed on a large number of routes and became more recently became famous for its endeavours on a line with relatively little commuter traffic, unlike many of its previous duties. This unit was introduced at some point between 1960 and 1990 and has been seen in various different liveries, ranging from some of the most recognisable to some of the most hideous.

I have improved the clue slightly, rewriting the commuter clue and also clarifying its only obvious similarity to the 360.

Not a 150. As of now, note that this unit is or was numbered somewhere between 300 and 599 - i.e. it is electric.

Class 423? The endeavours being the constant bouncing in and out ( unit 3417 ) of the Bluebell's northern bit?

( As to the 360... I'd discounted them because I thought it was too obvious!!!!! )
