Leamington Spa ?

Got it.

Used to be a mandatory stop for Chiltern, but the new Mainline timetable has a couple of early-morning headline runs that are last stop Warwick Parkway.

In the first year of WSMR's operation they didn't call at Leamington, but from the December 2009 timetable all their services did.

All the trains that stop at this station (3 per hour in each direction, I think) are for the same TOC, but three other TOCs run through non stop at least once an hour. It has 4 platforms.

Not Preston because

1) Preston has 6 platforms not 4
2) Preston has way more than 3 departure an hour in each direction
3) Preston is served by more than 1 TOC (3 iirc)
4) no trains run fast through Preston

1) It has 8 ;)
2) Off the top of my head it has 17-18tph
3) 4 (VT, NT, TP and SR)
4) Correct

St Denys.

Served by 1tph WAT–POO, 1tph SAL–ROM and 1tph SOU–PMS, all provided by SWT.

Fast trains are 2tph WAT–WEY (SWT), 1tph CDF–PMH (FGW), 1tph BMH–MAN (XC), 1tp2h SOU–NCL (XC), 1tph SOU–VIC (Southern) and 1tph SOU–BTN (Southern).

Platforms 1 and 2 are to/from Eastleigh, platforms 3 and 4 are to/from Fareham.

Very good, but unfortunately not the answer I was looking for !

The station I am thinking of only has electric trains stops there normally (unless the TOC makes a mess of its diagrams), though the non stop trains do include diesels.

The station is electrified at 25Kv overhead.

Like St Denys it is a junction, with platforms on the diverging lines.

One TOC runs trains non stop through both this station and St Denys !

I was about to say Earlswood (Surrey), which also sort of fits (the fast TOCs being FGW, FCC and GX), before I remembered that it was third-rail not OHL.

Is it one of the smaller stations on the WCML near Glasgow?

Coventry?

Every train stops at Coventry. It's served by three TOCs.

Not sure about this, but Cheadle Hulme? (Surely the TOC that runs fast through both would be XC...?)

Yes. Served by Northern (Manchester - Stoke stoppers 1tph, Mancheser - Wilmslow / Crewe 2tph)
Passed through by ATW (Manchester - Cardiff), Virgin (Manchester - London), XC (Manchester - Birmingham - wherever)

OK guys, have fun with this. I rpomise that the answer is not "South Woodham Ferrers", or anywhere else in Essex for that matter.

This time last year, every passenger service (except a few on diversion) called at this station, which also has a limited freight service running through, but as of May this is no longer true. For a station of its size, it has a very low number of platforms, at only two, and probably has the record for the highest suggested connecting time based on minutes suggested divided by number of platforms (not including those with only one). This station has a regular through service to London, as well as several other notable cities, including one member of the Core Cities Group.

One of the Manchester–Crewe is via Styal, though.

1tph through Cheadle Hulme only runs as far as Wilmslow (or is it Alderley Edge ?)

OK. Back with me then.

This station currently has more platforms used than it has ever had before, but one platform is currently out of use ! It is not electrified, and is served by two TOCs

-----------------------------------------

Looks like you folks need a clue ...

Well, this largish station was opened before the first world war, but until the 1980s it never had any trains on Sundays ! [ Trains were diverted to other local stations ]

Not Bridlington

This station was originally a terminus beside some through lines. In the 1960s those through lines were closed. In the 1980s the through lines were reopened and platforms built on them.
