Just wondering, could you tell me how many miles of track that Labour electrified in their 13 years, and how much they spent on rail. Thanks in advance.
I did not say Labour had done much for the railways. I just think that things are going to get a lot worse than the tory press tell us, whilst the present lot are in charge of the money.

What Tory press? The Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and Guardian certainly ain't Conservative!

I think as someone as already posted that bimodal trains like the french agv or the suggested meridien voyager with added pantograph car.

I also think that range extender idea about to be introduced in several cars be worth exploring. The old class 73 was similar I believe in that it had a releatively small diesel engine. Or what about a battery electric that collected and stored energy from the overhead and then used this energy where the catenary ended. might work for short trips off the main lines like hull and scarborough with maybe charging stations at each location
