Interesting thoughts if a 60 strong fleet of APT-S had been built: -
- Would the Mk 3B FOs/BFOs have been built? Likely not.
- Mk 3A RFM conversions for "Cuisine 2000" catering? Possibly not as 28 Mk 3A RFBs would be more than enough for Anglia and CrossCountry services. HST TRUKs possibly rebuilt as loco-hauled Buffets for use with Mk 3A stock on CrossCountry services.
- Mk 3B DVTs built? Possibly for use on Anglia, but maybe as a DBSO type vehicle (Think Irish Rail Mk 3 DBSOs).
- Class 90s built? Likely not with 136 Class 86/87 locomotives to mop up parcels, freight and CrossCountry/Anglia passenger traffic.
- Class 89 built? Likely not as ECML electrification would likely have used an APT variation (non-tilt).
