IET evacuation at Iver

After my up train ran slow for a while and moved onto the relief lines, I just passed what I presume was the reason: this service from Hereford was apparently being evacuated at Iver. Sorry if that doesn’t merit a thread but it’s one you don’t see too often (thankfully).

Looks like it only took 40ish minutes, and an up Elizabeth Line service wasn’t far behind us, so, while I sympathise with the many dozens being shepherded through the gate off Iver’s up main platform, it could have been a lot worse.

Can anyone provide information on the cause etc? Was anyone on the cursed vessel?

Not sure the exact cause but according to JourneyCheck a technical fault:

A train has stopped on the fast line towards London Paddington and requires technical assistance before it can move. This means that while the fast line towards London is blocked, express services will be routed onto the slow lines.

Driver reported a locked axle alarm,train stopped at Iver where it was examined and a rotational test carried out. It then went empty to Pad before going to North Pole.

So the train was terminated rather than evacuated!

I apologise if that was a misuse of the term. It seemed appropriate for a guy in orange ushering hundreds off an express train at a minor unscheduled stop. Is “evacuation” only for when the train is not at a station? Presumably that would have taken a good deal longer than 40 minutes…
