I was pleasently surprised to discover whilst wandering around Rowlands Castle this afternoon Idsworth Chapel, parts of which date back to the 11th Century.
The connection with the railways is that high up and facing you when you walk in is a colourful painting of the area through time. The railway is shown (it runs at the bottom of the hill upon which the chapel was constructed) and both a steam train and a class 442 wessex electric are shown! The 442 was a real surprise especially as a large portrait of Jesus was alongside complete with angels.
The 442 was painted in South West Trains livery so clearly the painting is not that old although 442s no longer run on the line. Saw a handful of 450s today.
Anyway does anyone else know about this? The class 442 is also painted on the ceiling at the entrance to Portsmouth and Southsea station together with a 159 I believe.
