Very first post on the forum and hello - though I've been a guest lurker for long time and been involved in transport for a fair while too, I hadn't posted until now as seeing about legal problems with data got me thinking.....
Doing the laymans job and copying the list from BusTimes Stagecoach South doesn't seem that hard to crack - if you do the NBC three digit numbering as per Hastings. There's loads of duplication and also a need to bear in mind long established brands (such as the Blackwater Valley 1 - I remember this when launched vice the 20/20A and on the Yateley run) and where the numbering needs to fit in with other services (such as the operators in Portsmouth).
Very long, very pie in the sky, but if anyone wants to take a look it's here. Some areas have minimal changes and others just add 2## or 3## to the numbers, which for the enthusiast makes things more old school but for others keeps things familiar. I did toy with renumbering Basingstoke into the odd 30 and 40 numbers which were left out but with a network that's had single numbers for the last 25 years (though the network has changed multiple times since) it seemed better to do a Hastings. There is a bit of a historical connection with which digit is added but it all works out. Here goes:

Sorry it's long but if Stagecoach South need to do it things aren't impossible. Really for some people it would make things more interesting, and I agree with the backroom route numbers. Certainly many duty cards carry different ETM numbers so the bigger picture can differentiate - I know people on the forum will get this already though.
