Ideas for Goostrey to Rock Ferry

I need to make the return trip next Saturday, arriving 16h30, leaving around 20h00 (attending the Football @ Tranmere).

Any ideas for a cheaper ticket that the £14.90 cheap day return, or a nice outbound run, other then Goostrey-Crewe-Chester-Rock Ferry?

Traceable on map CH.

It's quite reasonable as well, being only 3.5 miles more than the shortest route.
