I’m glad I’m not going mad after being shot down earlier in thread. I agree with others saying they’ll go when the lease ends, whenever that may be, but hopefully the lease has been extended enough to allow 701s into traffic to see off the BR stock.

Send 2/3rds of the 365s down south with conversion to DC perhaps using the motors and electrics from the 455 conversion.

A serious refurb of the existing 465s for local/mid distance services.

Send the 376s to Southern/TFL with a nice refurb and air con mods A GOOD deep clean and possibly a cab refit for south London metro services. Hopefully get some way to eliminating 455/456 use for southern

Order more 707s...

There's a "Speculative Discussions" subforum, where your posting would be better suited.

Don't see why there would be any reason to retraction the Class 365s, they are already fitted with AC motors.

Thanks @yorkie

@D365 you're absolutely correct it's the DC shoes which need to be refitted.

Is it the case that great northern currently don't have enough 387s to cover all areas so use the 365s for Peterborough services?

The 707s are a great step forward. I don't think the networkers are that knackered just yet.

I seem to recall that it wouldn’t be quite as simple as that. Don’t forget that the majority of the 365s have never operated on third rail, so they’d need full technical/safety certification.

Great Northern have retained 21 Class 365 units for Peterborough peak services, and other odds and ends. Not sure whether they’re still in use under the ongoing reduced timetable.

The 365s are still in good condition, but Southeastern appear to have run their fleet into the ground. It’s been reported that the Metro-Cammell units in particular aren’t in an ideal condition.

16 of them did as I'm sure you know, but GN decided to send almost all the odd numbers into storage and leave the evens in service, where had it been "send off the first 19, keep the last 21", it would have been a much easier move to look at re-shoeing (unless of course GN agree to do this sort of thing in future). I seem to recall 365002 once spent a brief spell with WAGN after Potters Bar, before going back to then Connex/SET and then moving back over once more, which proves that it's not impossible to bring them back to SE, it's just a question of whether that decision will ever be made.

The original shoe and other 3rd rail gear was binned and major work would be needed to manufacturer new and ensure that use on 3rd rail complaint with current regs (signalling EMC interference etc.)
