I was playing a few old Spectrum games online about managing train fleets.
I should point out I'm not 100% familiar with all the terms in rail train fleet management.
An example of which can be found on youtube at:
I decided to doodle what an analog version of this kind of game could look like; most of the art shown above is just placeholder art and has either no meaning/value.
I got to wondering - what does a train fleet manager or rolling stock manager do?
The obvious ones that I can think of are:
* Manufacture of new trains
* Fleet management: scheduling repairs and maintenance
* Handling ageing stock
* Hiring engineers, specialist staff
* Design and modifications
* Managing finance
In the spectrum games I saw they had you scheduling trains, reallocating them on journeys, refueling them; but I'm not sure a fleet manager would do such tasks.
Would they be involved with shunting of trains?
My kind of idea is that it would be an analog solo game where cubes represent your assets in different areas; I'm not sure it would exactly work because the cube wouldn't tell you its age or other variables. A die might work. But I think a micro card would probably work best; but the variables to know about would have to be quite limited otherwise it just becomes a mess.
I guess my question is: What things would you expect a rocking stock manager do?
I appreciate the help.
