Do you think a new smaller city centre station for Sheffield could be built at Nunnery Junction, specifically aimed at the Worksop & Stocksbridge lines but also with low level platforms for the MML to make it a small interchange?
There does appear to be a limited amount of space in the area to build the platforms and a small station building & car park, and the advantage would be that the trains from the Worksop line wouldn't need to traverse Nunnery Junction if they terminated in this new station, freeing up some MML capacity into Sheffield Midland. It would also give legs to introducing a new service to Stocksbridge (without having to reopen Victoria) and possibly even Penistone if that part of the Woodhead line was reopened. This provide a better location for a second station than a reopened Sheffield Victoria would, as it'd be closer to the city centre, close to the Parkway and would have a connections with the MML if low level platforms were built.
