I got diverted off the A1 last week and ended up waiting for a passing HST on the ECML at a level crossing near Cromwell. In a siding by the main line was a train, presumably waiting to be overtaken by the HST. The train comprised of a rake of burgundy carriages with a matching burgundy class 47 at each end. There were no markings or logos visible. My first thought was a royal train however a quick search on the internet shows that 47's haven't been used on these trains for quite a while. The locos were definitely 47's. Does anyone have any idea what the train might have been.

Cheers

Richard

Sounds like a West Coast Railways charter train, they have burgundy coloured stock and the same colour 47s. Not sure what the working was though.
