Shoot me down if this is bonkers, but looking for something else entirely, I spotted that these 2 car DMU’s were in storage in Dublin. (12no.)

Yes at Irish track gauge and I have no idea how much of a job it is to re-gauge. (Something tells me it’s not totally onerous) but given the DMU shortage here and the potential to push into service relatively quickly, could these units (sliding doors, presumably PRM compliant) be pushed into service here on pacer routes as a medium term solution?

^^dons crash helmet and dives for cover!!^^

Irish Rail wanted to bring these back. Believe it or not but we badly need dmus here too. A tender was issued last year to refurbish & overall but only one bid was received for the work and it was deemed too expensive/not value for money. other options are now being explored.

They would fit the UK on some routes. Good units but unloved in Ireland. Like the Alstolm DARTs.

Parts are an issue. Also the dragboxes are lower so could never couple to UK stock without major mods.
