Hello all,

My name os JDi. I would like to talk to some people on here - about anything really. I am at Uni, and just as a distraction from these essays. Sometimes I can feel so numb as I read too much for them, that it is nice to take a break at times!

What is your favourite station on the Midland Mainline? I like East Midlands Trains. Sometimes, I wish that I could get a job where I travel a lot, or could just ride the trains for the rest of my life!

My favourite station would be Luton Airport Parkway, it has nice big platforms and the staff are friendly. A good station to get photos of the HSTs as they stop

Don't know too much about the MML-Much to my shame I'll happily admit! Only been on the bit inside Greater London and North of Leicester. Syston station was nice when I visited it, as you get HSTs opening up from their call at Leicester! THRASH!!! Thes station itself is a bit poo though compared to many of the others!

I've spent a fair bit of time on Sheffield station from a combination of waiting for specific units/TPE not behaving and general incompetence both on the part of the railway and myself-it's a decent, well sheltered place to be I suppose. Nicest station I've been to on EMT? (And possibly overall?):Nottingham.

Leicester and Luton are good, but its all about Derby! There's always something happening, you've got the Mainline services from London to Sheffield, the Cross Country services, plus loads of freights, stuff for Etches, stuff from the RTC and if you're lucky there's usualy a few locos in the sidings too. I went there one day last year and there were no fewer than FIVE 37s dotted around!

I agree about EMT. They have the most comfortable HST's in my opinion and some of their first class fares are still quite reasonable at the right times.

I also find the landscape a bit more interesting than the southern part of the ECML.

Favourite stations, St Pancreas, because of the amazing trainshed and hotel, and The Betjamen Arms is a nice place to wait for a train. Also Sheffield Midland, because of the Sheffield Tap.

Another favourite is Ribblehead (which is really part of the Midland Mainline) because of its remoteness.

And if you're getting off at Ribblehead bring your walking boots with you and walk over Blea Moor into Dent Dale. Lots of interesting railway stuff and the view of upper Dent Dale is magnificent. Oh and you can call in at the Sportsman Inn in Cowgill!

I'm afraid that in terms of variety of trains Derby is very much a shadow of it's former self compared to 30 odd years a go. Freight has also seen a dramatic decline hence the reason why the up and down freight lines will go when the station is redesigned. The service itself is much better but in my opinion all the interest has gone, certainly compared to when I was a 'spotter in the late 1970s / early 1980s.

I'm sorry to hear that you're lonely. Please think long and hard about the questions that I'm going to ask you. Have you done all that you can to try and make friends? Is there anything you can do to change you as a person that might make it easier for you to make friends?

Then you need to make some. One should never make friends out of pity, however. So, take some time to think about why you don't seem to have any. Are you secretly happier in your own company? Do you put effort in to making friends? Do you socialise?
