I am currently the 16th highest poster of all time on here. Still, I do suspect that there are some out their likely to join me in the top 10 soon - I think they know who they may be.

Are you saying that some people really post a lot...I am sure that some of us MAY slightly become over enthusiastic at times. You cannot refer to me, as I have only been a member for seven weeks (but don't divide my posting total by 7 whatever you do, to get a weekly total)

Seven weeks?! And you have 1,000 plus posts! Was it you who's wife calculated that you would get 6,000 in a year?

If you were to get 6,000 posts every year you'd be ahead of Yorkie in three, who is currently the highest poster of all time with 13,000+.

People have been warned by the mods for posting too much

I know of a few. I've been kindly asked to slow down my posting but not warned. I've had plenty deleted though.

I recently saw a forum where one particular user had 152,280 posts.

People have been warned by the mods for posting too much

I raised this very point with one of the moderators, who said that there was no limit. But this is not the point here...Unlike some, I am not at all interested in gathering as many postings just for the sake of obtaining some numerical status. I do not enter any mileage figures in the 2011 competition and will never do so.

You have to realise that as a retired person, I have far more time to indulge my inquisitive nature into matters of railway affairs in general and when I joined this forum in mid-April 2011, there were numerous sub-forums on many differing aspects of railways and light rail. There are also the quiz sub-forum and the general discussion sub-forum.

I have tried to enter into the spirit of debates on sub-forums, in order that I could take as much pleasure as possible from being a member of this website.

I have even set quiz queries on two differing threads and it was only this morning that a fellow member asked me to provide the answer, so an "open forum" would exist for someone else to set another conundrum.

If you are saying that there is a limit on enjoyment, I will have to ask myself if there is now any reason why I should remain a member. I shall make this my last posting today and will consider my options as to remain a member or not over this evening and tomorrow morning.

Personally I think posts in the quiz forum shouldn't count towards your post count, but then again it is just an irrelevant number.

As the moderators have said there isn't a limit on posting, my impression is that those that have been warned for posting too much were those that were posting posts that didn't really add the thread they were posted in. Seeing as your posts almost all (if not all) add to the discussion or at least further it I don't think you will ever be in danger of that warning. So I do hope you decide to stay because it would be a shame to leave over such a small matter.

I notice some of the post counts have fallen rather dramatically, since the Quiz Forum posts were removed!!

It has lead to this rather interesting state of affairs... (Not faked.)

I think that this has been an excellant thing to have been done and this will make the forum posting figures far more realistsic in terms of actual involvement on forum debates.

The reduction in my total postings shows how much I have enjoyed using certain parts of the quiz sub-forum such as Station Association, which can be very mind stimulating.

I am glad that there was an announcement by the forum administrators that the forum would be closed at 2200 on Saturday night. to allow for an update of the system. It gave me chance to calm down somewhat after making a posting that expressed exactly how I felt at the time that I made that posting.

Having had now slept upon the matter and have found that the quiz totals have been deleted from the posting totals (much to my satisfaction), I have given more considered thought to the matter.

When I read the way that you had worded your posting shown above, it made me think of how much that I would miss being a member, so for better or worse, I have decided to remain a member.

I saw that as well. You lost about 1,000 posts! I'm down by 800. Annoying, but what can you do?

Not get worked up about it! It was a minor shock, but it's only a number, and shouldn't gain you any extra respect! ;)

I'm working my way back up to Established Member, maybe by the end of the month, touch wood...

I think that the problem has now been resolved by the decision of the moderators to revert back to the ORIGINAL ruling that quiz question postings will no longer count towards the score shown under the members nom de plume.

This does not mean the Quiz Forum will suddenly receive a dramatic drop in popularity, nor should it. It is a very enjoyable part of the forum.

I agree. The Quiz Forum is an excellent part of RailUK. I shall still continue to post in it on a regular basis.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but what was the reasoning behind the decision to not count Quiz posts?

Besides the quiz forum postings not counting in the postings total, I would also suggest that general postings on the "admin" forum should not count towards any such posting total.

I would disagree. The admin forum is the most important of all as it will specify all news of updates, changes and closures about events occuring on the forum. Some people may have questions or feel unsure about certain updates. Its not like the Quiz Forum, where you're merely posting over and over again to guess a station or a train class, you're posting due to a valid forum occurence. Even today, people were still asking questions. If the posts do not make relevance to the discussion they can be deleted.

Personally, I think we should just drop this whole debate and leave it. The decision has been made.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but what was the reasoning behind the decision to not count Quiz posts?

As far as I could tell, it was to get more users away from the Quiz Forum and taking part in forum debates and general railway discussion, rather than ammasing hundreds of posts by repeatedly posting 'is that train a 365?' or 'is that train a 313?'

I am man enough to admit that I was wrong to say that posts on the ADMIN forum should not have counted towards the posting totals of members.

I HAVE MADE A FORMAL STATEMENT TO THAT EFFECT ON THE ADMIN FORUM

Calm down mate, I haven't even looked at that thread today. It's not a problem. I don't expect you to apologise over such a small matter; I've made millions of mistakes on here. :)

I noticed that too. However, I do believe that Guess The Station has been on its lasts legs for a while now. I'm still participating, but numbers are down, I agree.

As with HST Power's prediction, today is the first day in a long, long while where I have left GTS overnight and only ONE post has been made. It as to be left alone with no replies for four months before it is locked though...

We seem to have the same few people here obsessing about postcounts. Time to stop.
