Going back into work after lunch and I have just seen my first i - pad phone, looked very strange someone talking into an i-pad but it has conference call facilities, Video chat and other stuff.

Has anyone else seen one.

Anywhere B link goes
Its not a phone as such. I am guessing you saw someone using FaceTime which is an app which allows video calling between apple devices

Nope, it was an i-pad using as a phone. She was having a conversation as you would on a phone

One of my new chinese students, so it probably not out in this country yet as she will have brought it with her from China

You can get various apps to make calls with VoIP but it is not phone as such and nor is it part of the standard Ipad setup (over than FaceTime).

Why anyone would wan't to use an Ipad as a phone is beyound me!

For all you that took the mick, its from Japan and it`s like the new i-phone 5 and its not available in this country.

Hand sized and you can use it as your net book and also a phone

There is no such thing as the iPhone 5.

I suspect it is actually a tablet of some kind, but it isn't one made by Apple, and therefore not an iPad!

Apple generally don't release their products specifically in one country. There would be an announcement, a keynote, publicity and a launch date. There isn't an iPad that can make phone calls like the iPhone.

There is also no iPhone 5. There is the iPhone (2007), iPhone 3G (2008), iPhone 3GS (2009), iPhone 4 (2010) and now the iPhone 4S (2011).

there was me and my daughter walking past her at my college, it was the size of the new kindle tablet and she was talking on it as we heard the person on the other end. It was not a video, it was white with a clear screen.

These students have only been here 3 weeks and come from China and japan with all the latest tech so unless you come from there how can you say there is nothing like it.

I know for some of you guys you think your are well up to date with all the new stuff but these students have stuff you would not believe and have not seen here

Nobody said there is nothing like it. You said it was an ''iPad'' and then an ''iPhone 5.'' I, and others, pointed out that it is neither, as Apple do not have a product matching the description, or with that name.

Constructive criticism and ideas is what I wanted but when you just say "there is no such thing" its as though you know better than anyone and you can't be arsed to offer advice, well apart from negative stuff.

I might know know much about i-phones or i-pads but then at least I would not be a disrespectful as to say "no such thing" very dismissive attitude.

Thank you to those that give ideas. I will try and find the student next week

No you didn't. You claimed it was an iPad and then claimed it was the iPhone 5.

If you want to put it like that, then yes I do know better than you in the fact I know that the iPhone 5 does not exist in Japan.

What do you want me to say then? And in fact if you read my post you will see that I did not just say that, I gave some pointers as to what it may actually be.

But the ‘iPhone 5’ is already out… in China

But over in China, where pirated DVDs of the latest Hollywood movies hit the streets even before the films are released worldwide, “the latest iPhone5” is on sale – at a throwaway price of just under $50. The only catch: as with many things about China, this one is decidedly a fake.

Maybe a fake but it does exist in name

But it's still not an iPhone 5...

Couldn't you have said that then, otherwise it does look like you are saying it. It was obviously fake, I doubt any of us on here would have not noticed it being advertised etc.

Out of all the lead up to the 4s, I think the world would know if there was a iPhone 5. And who says you have to be a citizen of a country or visit a country to know what legitimate technology is about in that country?

There's a Samsung Galaxy tablet that can be used as a phone IIRC.

Yes that's quite correct however you do need to use a headset for it to work properly - that being said using it next to your ear without a headset is not unlike the N-Gage which had the skill of making the user look like they had half a pineapple attached to their ear!

I should know, I used to own one!

Ahhh thanks for that Ajax - being an iPhone owner I wasn't too sure - I know Vodafone have tried to get me to have one on an extortionate 24 month contract - they were soon told where to go!
