For an Off Peak Return ticket from Rugby to Manchester:

Outward Travel
By any train except those

Mondays-Fridays before 0415.

Is that really correct? So an off peak return is basically an any time return?

It's cheeky what they do - I'm travelling from Coventry and was about to pay £50ish for a return ticket (including an Advance fare on the outbound), when I discovered I could get a more flexible return from Rugby instead for £30ish instead.

There are some interesting ones, e.g., Oxshott - Upton Merseyside Via London, SVR in lieu of London Terminals - Wrexham (or others) SOR.

That's because Coventry - Manchester is priced by Cross Country. Rugby - Manchester is priced by Virgin.(and is valid via Coventry)

There's quite a list. Have you thought about downloading the data yourself?

That's not the only reason - sometimes it is because the TOC wishes to keep the fare within the other terms of an off-peak ticket rather than an Anytime one, e.g. an Anytime return is valid for use within 5 days on the outward portion whereas an off-peak journey must comment on the date on the ticket

I didn't think that it was that easy! Registered with ATOC and downloading at the moment. Let's hope that me and my Mac can make sense of massive file once it is un-zipped.


UPDATE - no we (or should I say my Mac) can't. I've got a folder "RJFAF028" but none of the files inside make sense to my computer. Do I have to download some additional software or try on a Windows machine?

Actually this particular view shows 86 million in total.

But that is by no means precise, it doesn't include all the fares, and various other things.

But % are misleading I think. A lot of these fares may never have been sold.

A lot more Woking - London tickets are sold than Aramthwaite to Clock House.

If you boarded at Coventry, you'd have to go via Birmingham or Nuneaton or you'd be seen as doubling back.

Yes

Most (if not all) tickets from Rugby to Stafford /Stoke-On-Trent & beyond are valid either via Nuneaton & the trent valley or Coventry & the West Midlands

It also allows the TOC to turn around and start restricting a previously unrestricted Off-Peak fare. As Virgin have done on Milton Keynes cluster - North Wales, and to Scotland. And CrossCountry have done with the Via Gloucester routed fares to Bristol and the West Country.
