Hi, i am looking to download a class 66 or HST or 37 simulator (When my laptop is finally fixed) but never done this before and was just wanting to ask a few questions if you don't mind.

1. Is it easy enough to understand the all of the controls?

2. Can you do the realistic things and look at your own train from the cab window, and have to stop at red lights and if driving a freight train, do you occasionly get put into a loop to let a passenger train past and things like that if you understand what i mean etc etc?

3. When download the class of loco or train i want is there already routes to drive along? or do you have to download the routes separatly?

4. Do you actaully drive the train?

If i've got totally the wrong idea about this, sorry lol

Yes, there isn't that many and the major ones are displayed on the side of the screen at a push of a button.

You cant look out of the cab window and turn your head, all you can do is look forward and if the cab is designed to look left or right.

Yes you have to stop at red lights if not you'll be tripped by the TPWS ariels, on our routes they normally have to be approached at 25mph. In real life they vary, and sometimes can be 30/40/50 mph. Although most train operating companies ask you to approach an AWS magnet (red light) at 20/25mph anyway which is about right if you want to stop!

When driving a freight train on the NWM's line you'll sometimes be put on a loop and sometimes waiting 10/15 minutes.

3. When download the class of loco or train i want is there already routes to drive along? or do you have to download the routes separatly?

Generally yes, depends on the authur of the route.

4. Do you actaully drive the train?

HELP. . . i downloaded BVE4 and I also Downloaded the class 43 HST, but when i go into BVE4, and i read the instructions on a site it says click BVE4 and choose my route and program settings, but i can't it just lets me either "open", "Option", "About" and "Display Mode Settings", but i have downloaded the HST one to drive and got BVE4, but can't find the folder where HST is, could anyone point me in the right direction please . . .

All i have downloaded is HST (i found it now thanks) and BVE4, where do you get the routes from? and once i downloaded the route should it work properly? i hope!. . .

use the link i gave you and go to the home page and click on downloads there are plenty of trains, including 66's, 47's tube stock , 323's 158's 153's pendos ans voyagers and some goor routes. and all should work, if you still get problems just ask ppl im sure they will help or look back through the threads looking at other probs ppl have had and how the sorted it. hope that helps.

Right, well i go to the stage in the HST choosed a route, and it loaded up eventually but as soon as got in cab and looked out the window, it exited it self and said it can't do it because virtual memory is to low? does anybody know how to lower virtual memory? i've been on my moms computer because can't wait for mine to get fixed properly lol

I would recomend using coxsters BVE databace for finding things,

as for the virtual memory, you need to set it higher. Under control panel, go to System, then click it, click on Advanced, then performance, then advanced again, then at the bottom of the window, it should be there.

Cheers mate, i just got the 66 one, and lol i can't set off, got it in forward, let the brake off, full power and it won't go, is there anything else i need to do?

if you read the help section on TSC then that will help you. It also gives you correct startup procedures. It may help if you print it off.

Well i've got to when your in the cab, got acceptance to carry on, i apply power, toot the horn, close doors (as far as i know - Don't say "the doors are now closed" or nothing, put it in forward gear but don't know how to release the brakes and plus i can't actaully here the loco engine running (Ifyour supposed to) or if i try and start it with number 2 it don't, i can do everything accept move lol, i have got everything downloaded haven't i, i mean it couldn't work if i didn't have everything could it? i've got BVE4 and something else the routes, and the loco class 66, do i need to download anything else is that why it ain't moving? pleeeeeaaaaase help me . . . i want to drive lol

ok, cheers, i have been driving at that now, just that the graphics ain't too good, it like jumps if you understand what i mean, not runs past the windows smoothly but jumpy, is it like that with everybody's or just mine? and what shall i do to make it smooth if possible

Upgrading your RAM may help (took my fps from an average of 5 to and avg of 10), again use Belarc and post back here.

So how much does a graphics card cost?

After that will it be perfect? so it runs smoothly

What exactly do i have to do with this belarc advisor?

Also how do you upgrade your RAM?

3. When prompted, save to a location on your hard drive. (e.g. Desktop)
4. Run the installer
5. It should run after it's installed. If it doesn't, use the shortcut it places on your desktop.

The cost of a graphics card depends on several factor; the amount of VRAM (memory it has), the brand name, the interface type, the speed of its processing unit

Changing your graphics card may not make it perfect; your processor (CPU) may not be fast enough (in which case, a new PC is in order )

Adding RAM involves opening the computer's case - not to be done unless you're confident with it.

Don't do what I did, when I first dowloaded BVE4, did the same as you, and thought there was something wrong with it-

Press spacebar to turn the DRA off, once the signal has gone from red to yellow/green. (You shouldn't get two on the buzzer if it's on red)

In order to boot the engine up, you MUST have the reverser in Neutal.

On some train services, the simulator starts with the engine running, and the desk booted up. If the desk is off, you have to flick the reverser from forward to reverse (up-down), then quickly press the insert button, to cancel the AWS buzzer.

After that, you can then turn the engine/s on, and make sure you hold the number 2 down long enough.
