I am 41 years old and live in Didcot a mile from Didcot Parkway. I have been working in the Motor Industry for the last 13 years.
I am now looking for a change of career and potentially becoming a Train Driver something I have been interested in for a while now.
Would anybody be able to advise me on how to start this process ?

Great Western look for Trainee Drivers now and then, it's a matter of continually checking the vacancies as it's unpredictable as to when and how many Trainee Drivers they take on.

Also consider other potential roles on the railway too. I started off wanting to be a train driver but failed the MMI once. Then learn't more about other roles and applied and got a signalling role.

I am not trying to talk you out of it of course! Just saying that most seem to come wanting to be a train driver but there are other roles available too that you might enjoy that aren't quite as competitive.

Read as much of this forum as possible as all the answers are there.

Then practice, practice, practice so you are ready for the online tests and then the assessment day. Lots fail because there just not prepared.
