If a First Class ticket holder boarded the sleeper and either they chose not to take a berth or there were no spare berths would they still be allowed to sit in the Lounge Car and have free tea etc?

I wonder if this has ever occurred?

On the sleeper operated by Great Western or Scotrail?

On the Scotrail sleepers, I didn't think First class customers got free tea throughout the journey. Whether I've been in First or Standard I was given a pot (in First) and a cup (in Standard) in the morning only. When in the Lounge car travelling First class berths I have had to pay for tea, or have it deducted from the £5 catering voucher.

Stickers in the Lounge car say it is for First class berth customers only, with seats for those occupying Standard berths only where space is available.

AFAIK it has changed now but back when the Night Riviera had Mark 2 seating and catering coaches the lounge/buffet car had notices saying 1st class ticket holders & sleeping berth customers only.

On a couple of occasions I boarded without sleeper reservations and had no difficulty in using a 1st class ticket to occupy a seat in the lounge car, was a hell of a lot better in the otherwise empty lounge car than trying to kip in the crowded standard seating coach.

On FGW the sleeper is now Standard Class only of course. The lounge car is for Sleeper Berth passengers and free tea, coffee and hot chocolate is provided in the evening to berth customers. I imagine a passenger holding an open First Class ticket using the Standard Class seats could have complimentary hot drinks as well, it's the exactly the same items given out free as in the daytime to First Class passengers.
