Hybrid 168321

I boarded what I thought was 168001 on the 1045 at Moor Street this morning. Walking through to the front carriage I checked the number and noted it wss 79301. As I had noted when I boarded the middle carriages being 58651 and 58451 so I was riding a hybrid set. On arrival at Leamington Spa I checked the set number which was 168321! Strange that a four car set has a number in the two car series.

It's not unheard of to move coaches from the same stock to keep units in service. Instead of two units sat on a depot somewhere, there's now just one with the other parts of it in service.

168001 currently has major cab door issues, but the centre carriages are fine, so they were placed inside 1688321. The units should be returned to their original formation when 8001 goes in for refurb (after 8003 is finished, hopefully not too long now). The driving carriages are currently parked up unused, I believe at Banbury, though they may have moved since March.

You will also find that 168004 has a middle car donated from 168110.

They driving cars got moved to Crewe on 12th April.

As this was the first result in searching "168321", RTT is now showing it back as a 2-car formation. 168001 not rostered.

It went to Crewe on Friday to deliver 001s middle cars back, with 001 now starting refurbishment.

Thanks for the info...glad I got around to getting 321 as a four car the other week. Are there any other hybrid formations on Chiltern atm?

There was one with 168004 & 168110 swapping a middle car, however they both got reformed back last week.
