I usually make this journey using EMR but reading about the problems they are having with hot weather for there trains is there another TOC which would be better without increasing the journey time

You could get a bus along the busway to Cambridge North for the Greater Anglia Norwich trains.

Journey can certainly still be done, avoiding EMR completely, using Thameslink + Great Northern between Huntingdon and Peterborough, then Greater Anglia (or Cross Country) between Peterborough and Ely, and then with Greater Anglia between Ely and Norwich, but would probably result in slightly extended journey times. Noted that through tickets from Huntingdon to/from Norwich are routed "not via London" so is travelling via Hitchin and Cambridge, a valid alternative option for Norwich?

Yes. Although it offers cheaper splits, I see that the forum's ticketing site will offer a through fare with an itinerary changing at HIT/CBG.

The journey can be made by Greater Anglia but that would require an additional change at Ely. Also CrossCountry operate between Peterborough and Ely.

For a midweek journey during the day, travelling from Huntingdon to Norwich (via Peterborough) is typically 2hrs 20mins, including connection time, if using EMR, and around the same, if not using EMR. Can at certain times of the day be done in just under 2 hrs. Travelling via Hitchin/Cambridge, however, and avoiding EMR, typically takes a little over 3 hrs. Broadly similar times if travelling the other way, usually it'll be quicker if via Ely and Peterborough.
