Is there any way we can throw Hungary out of the EU? That a...hole Orban has blocked aid to Ukraine and obviously likes to cuddle up to buddy Putin in order to reap the benefits Russia can supply whilst others around him have adjusted to do without them.

Yeah, sorry, what I meant was is there any way they can be expelled.

No member can be expelled, but Article 7 allows the suspension of certain membership rights, including voting, to member states who are identified as violating the bloc's values. Identifying a state in this way needs all members except the state being investigated to agree, after this sanctions can be applied on a qualified majority. If this route was pursued, the biggest hurdle to sanctioning Hungary would probably be Slovakia, given their new leader's sympathetic towards many of Orban's views.

The inability to expel members though I do think is a flaw in the EU's constitution, and it should exist, but with stringent tests to be met to ensure it's not done on a whim (e.g. expulsion should only happen if certain violations occur, and/or repeat minor violations as determined by an independent committee).

I am very much a Europhile but I do think they need to change the rules to deal with rogue members like Hungary. A state that that can help bring down the entire EU which I think was Farage's plan if the referendum didn't go his way.

Nigel Farage stated after being elected to the EU Parliament, that his sole intention was to sabotage things. It was in response to a question why have you joined an organisation that you despise.

When I worked for the Civil Service, a senior manager went on secondment to the European Commission. Looking at him I thought the Brexitiers were using him as a Manchurian candidate. Also he had no idea he was being used.

My Grandad was Hungarian and came to England during the Uprising in 1956. I used to be really proud to be 'a quarter Hungarian' and have a Hungarian surname, but some of the stories I hear as an adult make me quite ashamed of this part of my heritage.

I agree that Hungary does not belong in the union anymore. Any country with extreme political views that aren't in line with other countries should go. In addition, I'd like to see Poland leave too, as their abortion laws violate human rights.

TBF the recent election in Poland is likely to lead to a change in general political direction so that particular issue may well be resolved in due course.
