Had a trip to Budapest last weekend. Can anyone tell me if there are any books out there for Loco numbers and also Timetables.

I know nothing on the above, however I would like to know how the flooding is?

Hi Fred26, The floods are no problem in Budapest city. Margaret Island was still closed. If going by train, I used the sleeper back from Budapest to Munich and was delayed by two hours, I was told this was due to flood damage to a bridge somewhere in Hungary! Hope this is helpful.

Hello Varkman. I don't know of any books but you can certainly buy a timetable and there is an on line timetable. There are also two superb "realtime map" websites that tell you all the info about any train currently running. One will give you the loco number, the other all the details of the train. I have a little knowledge and a few contacts.

There should be one return trip on Saturday and one on Sunday through July and August for one of the old Nohab diesels from Budapest to Tapolca and through the summer timetable there is one trip each way from Gyor to Szekesfehervar with an old M40 diesel. As with most places they are moving more and more to multiple units but for the moment at least you can still get some reasonable diesel haulage. The West Highland line it is not but still good fun. Dave.

I have a load of trump cards with various Hungarian locomotives but I'm guessing that's not what you're looking for!

I'd recommend looking for the relevant information online in Magyar.

I don't know if you know Hungarian, so sorry if you do, but if not I know a few railway terms in it If you need any help.

Basic stuff is simple: mozdony (locomotive), eleketromos (electric), dizel (diesel), motorvonatok (multiple unit).

Searching for the relevant class will probably bring something up (e.g. M42 mozdony).

Book arrived today. Very pleased with it. My own pictures on the covers which are a bit grainy but on the whole I think you would be pleased with it.
