I was due to board a HT service from Doncaster today @ 07:19 which was cancelled but it did arrive into Doncaster on time and then terminated. Then returning to Hull empty. I’ve found out that this is the reason why but I’m not sure what the issue is and why they can’t run a part Hull to London service rather than Hull to Doncaster.

"Due to rolling stock problems First Hull Trains will be operating a restricted service on Tuesday 5th July. First Hull Trains will operate a service between Hull and Doncaster only. Rail travel between Doncaster and London King's Cross will be provided by East Coast servicess.
Passengers due to travel today should report to departure stations as planned where alternative rail transportation will be provided.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused to your journey.

HT really are struggling with their 180 fleet, this has been ongoing for a while I believe. An MP was complaining about it a week ago. This may partly be because one of their 180's is at Brush Works....

Updated now.

Due to a rolling stock problem First Hull Trains will now be operating a revised service for the remainder of the day. The following services are due to operate as per normal timetable:- The 13.48, 15.48 and 18.50 departures from London King's Cross. In addition the 15.10 service from Hull to London will start from Selby. The 17.10 service from Hull is cancelled and alternative rail transportation will be provided. The 19.10 service from Hull will operate as normal.
Passengers due to travel today should report to departure stations as planned where alternative rail transportation will be provided.

Somewhere only we know
Is it a reliability issue with the trains?

If so, what is the problem exactly.. other than them looking good but obviously being crap in operational practice?

This is what I dont get as the one this morning was running fine and was ditched at Doncaster and sent back to Hull. Would have been best running that train into London and back as normal.

I disagree. in cases like this I think it is right that Hull Trains should operate between Hull and Doncaster for Connections, just like I think GC should (when necessary) cut services to Sunderland - York / Bradford to Doncaster and transfer passengers.

It wasnt run through to London as it would leave them short of sets to run between Hull and Doncaster (something was needed to run the 0906 back along with a crew)

Dig out some mk2/3s and an 86/7 for Donny to London again (and bung a 47 on Hull-Donny). Or even better use a 67 throughout!

What's up with Hull Trains' 180s? Apparently they cancelled all services today?

Looks like it is fun and games again today with National Rail reporting that a number of trains are cancelled or terminating/starting short due to lack of serviceable trains.

Does anyone know what the problem is? Anything similar to the problem GC had with their 180's the other year where the air filters were getting clogged up and snuffing the engines one by one?

I could be wrong, but's it's my understanding that the radiators had become blocked with seeds and pollen and each engine overheated one after the other.
I'm sure its no co-incidence that the class 175 is currently recording its best ever reliability having recently had all its cooler groups replaced during overhaul. The class 180 cooler group is near identical and I suspect due to higher fan speeds blocks even faster than the 175 cooler group used to.

It's probably an entirely new problem the Adelantes are having fun chucking at the fitters - just cos they can.
