After seeing the thread about the Northbound Highland Cheiftain problems, I was having a look on Realtime Trains and noticed that a couple of Hull Trains services have been partially cancelled today- 1A93 10:30 Hull to London Kings Cross terminated at Grantham, and 1H04 13:48 London Kings Cross to Hull started from Grantham. It says this is due to "an issue with the train crew (TG)".

I'm a bit confused though, as looking on RTT, 1A93 terminated at Grantham at 13:23, having been booked to call at 12:00. Does anyone know why this service ended up being 86 minutes late? It looks like it was on time until Doncaster where it left 39 minutes late and continued to loose time throughout the rest of its journey.

The train was due to arrive into London at 13:10, forming the 13:48 service to Hull, yet it started from Grantham at 15:29, a whole 39 minutes later than it was due to call. What did they do with the unit during the almost two hour turn around and why, given that the train was turned around early as it was running late, did it still leave 39 minutes late? On Hull Trains' website, it says "This is due to waiting earlier for a train crew member", although it is showing unknown cause on RTT.

Does anyone know what was happening. It looks a bit strange to me! Was a crew member taken ill? If so, I would have thought it would say so.

Thank you

Ryan

Don't know about southbound but it seems clear that northbound was delayed awaiting London passengers off the 1408 from Kings Cross.

That makes sense as I'm guessing that was the service Hull Trains passengers were told to use instead. It's interesting to see that the Hull Trains Class 180 was in platform 4 according to RTT. The strange thing is, the East Midlands Trains services to Liverpool and Norwich, which use platform 4, weren't affected. Was the Class 180 brought out at last minute once those services had passed (so at, say, 15:15)? Where was the 180 stabled while waiting for the working to Hull?

It's interesting to see how things work during disruption, and what with the Northbound Highland Chieftain failing at Darlington, and the Hull Trains cancellations, there's been a lot to look at on the ECML today. :)

This will be why I saw a Hull Trains 180 parked in the siding at Grantham yesterday. I was on the Highland Cheiftain all the way from Inverness to London yesterday, glad I didn't get the XC set today with the catering reductions!

I was going to say, I think there are sidings nearby. I was once on a GC that got terminated short at Grantham (heading North) due to track issues. Once we were all off, the set went back off southbound to clear the station platforms
