Hull Paragon station toilets set for £500K makeover

The toilets at Hull's Paragon Station are set to undergo a £500k refurbishment to 'improve standards', TransPennine Express (TPE) have announced.

Is £500k in this context a lot? It doesn't seem that long ago that the new waiting area was installed.

They have stunk awful from the day they opened, was it 2017 or 2018?. Should start again as something isn't right with the setup.

No, not really.
I would expect that they have to do some serious digging & re-plumbing to sort out the smell problem.
From the description, I would assume that there is a leak from the foul water side [black water] of the sewerage system.
That can be expensive, as they may have to hunt for the source(s) of the leak and replace the ceramicware, tiles etc.

Yes it was 2017. I found a thread I started back then mentioning I'd been in when the waiting room had just opened.
I've never needed to use the loos though.

Is Paragon one of those terminals that has a pre-existing set of toilets underground ? If so it might be worth reinstating those and having "relief" loos on the level for those with mobility issues.

That's correct, the cafe should have been left as it was. The toilets used to be to the right of the platform gateway, they moved them to the left where the cafe used to be because they wanted more retail units on the concourse and that was a totally pointless exercise. It was a complete waste of money!
