Hey everyone

I am trying to find the cheapest possible return journey going from Huddersfield train station to the main Loughborough Station. I am willing to split as many times as it takes to get it super cheap!

I have a 16-25 rail card and the journey usually costs me £20.25.

Any help and suggestions would be hugely appreiciated :D

Do you want to come back the same day or any time within a month?

I'm sure there's more, but you can start off by splitting at Sheffield.

If you're travelling in one day, and willing to be restricted to the Penistone line, the cheapest is as follows:

Huddersfield-Sheffield £4.75 CDR
Sheffield-Derby £8.60 Derbyshire Wayfarer
Long Eaton-Loughborough £3.30 SDR

= £16.65

Note the following though:

- You will have to leave after 10am M-F to avoid the 16-25 railcard minimum fare. At weekends you can leave as early as you like!
- The Wayfarer is available from Sheffield station.
- You will have to catch a service that calls at Long Eaton (shouldn't be a problem mind, most Sheffield-Loughborough services do).

if that £4.75 ticket is the £4.90 "Not Leeds" one then you can go via Wakefield Westgate by using the Selby-Wakefield Wesgate via Leeds,Bradford and Huddersfield "Grand Tour" service which leaves Huddersfield for Westgate at around xx35

Another ticket option for travel if coming back same day is

Huddersfield-Chesterfield Standard Day Return £6.65
Chesterfield-Loughborough £10.70 Off Peak Return

Total £17.35

or if not coming back on the same day

Hudderdfield-Chesterfield Standard Open Return £7.75
Chesterfield-Loughborough Off Peak Return £10.70

Total = £18.45
Gives a Slight Saving.

Cheers for the advice

I'm sorry for not stating that I wanted an open return (so I can return on monday afternoon next week).

Is The option of going through Chesterfield definately the cheapest?

The £18.45 option is the cheapest I can find at present for flexible walk on tickets, coming back on a different day than the outward journey. Though you never know what someone else might find.

Hey, does anybody know the best route to take for this journey if I use megatrain and which train only services would be best to use to get me closest to Loughborough from Huddersfield and how much it would cost on the same dates I specified before?

A typical fare on Megabus is £9.00 from Huddersfield to East Midlands Parkway http://www.megabus.com/uk/index.php

Tickets from East Midlands Parkway (EMD) to Loughborough (LBO) are priced at £2.25 each way with a Railcard. (£2.30 for a Day return which is not of any use to you travelling back a different day)
