Huddersfield to Havant

Can anyone help?

Will need to make this journey this coming week but want to avoid the entire London area.

Would anybody be able to advise an alternative way?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'd probably suggest across to Manchester, then XC down to the Southampton area, then across from there. On mobile so can't currently suggest any specific routes.

A quick glance on National Rail Enquries is suggesting two options:

Huddersfield - Manchester Piccadilly
Manchester Piccadilly - Reading
Reading - Guildford
Guildford - Havant

Huddersfield - Manchester Piccadilly
Manchester Piccadilly - Milton Keynes Central
Milton Keynes Central - Clapham Junction (Southern service)
Clapham Junction - Havant

Your request to avoid the London area altogether probably rules out using Clapham Junction, so the first itinerary may suit best

I you want to minimise changes I'd go Huddersfield-Manchester Piccadilly-Southampton-Havant.
It seems to be able to be done in about 6 hours 15 minutes.

Don't buy the Not Via London Off-Peak Return. The +Any-Permitted is just as good and slightly cheaper. (doesn't apply to the anytime) That is one of the quirks that really bugs me.

I've done Leeds/Bradford/Halifax to Guildford on almost every sensible route. Going Cross Country via Leeds (check this is permitted) or Manchester to Birmingham and Reading is quite a nice journey and not excessively longer. If you can, try and avoid a change at Birmingham.
