Huddersfield to Cleethorpes

I'm attending my teams FA Cup 3rd round tie at Blundell Park (Grimsby Town v Huddersfield Town) on the 4th January and having looked at the fares,I'm struggling to make any decent savings on splits on the fare.The open return fare is £31.80 and I can only seem to knock off a few quid with splits. There are 2 of us travelling, both adults, no railcards. If we can avoid travelling via Sheffield it would be a bonus, due to slowness of the journey time to Sheffield from Huddersfield.

Anyone help?

A split at Adwick knocks £5.60 off it, so £26.20 but you'll struggle to beat that.

The through ticket will allow you to go via Leeds and/or Wakefield and then Doncaster if you wish to avoid Sheffield.

AFAIK you are not actually allowed to go via Sheffield on the through ticket, although I suspect that it will be accepted by the majority of guards.

Are there any cheap Advance tickets available from Huddersfield to Hull on that date?

Then bus over the Humber Bridge and Northern Duo ticket from Barton on Humber to Cleethorpes...
