Knowing what the preservation movement is, we'll probably see a dozen HSTs "saved" (though maybe only a handful will be fit for full linespeed running after a couple of years).

Personally i would have mine in original MML or FGW green and gold. These are the ones i remember very fondly from my childhood!

I imagine that if EMT dont refit now seats, their MK3's would be the most likely to be saved, as they are already fitted with IC70's

You make it sound like a bad thing!
They are ideal for mainline railtours though, no runarounds or extra locos needed, all the necessary safety equipment already attached and everything conforms to crash worthiness better than a Duff on MK2s.

I imagine a Valanta HST will be very popular.

I would pay good money to stand by a droplight window of a swallow liveried HST powered by a Valenta. Seeing as I wouldn't normally bother with a railtour, that's one extra customer already!

Eh, perhaps it's just the lack of the nostalgia factor for me, but I've never been too keen on the Swallow livery.

And very nice they are to as I found out last week on a journey from Loughborough to London.

I could actually see the countryside over the seat backs from my aisle seat, something I have long missed in Virgin land!!

It seems Derby to Skegnes is a popular HST run at the moment.

Perhaps these could become more regular once more HSTs are available. They could even introduce a through service from Chester to Crewe to Derby to Skegness - a new cross country route.
