Very unusual working, definately. It was suggested it may happen for the Swansea v Pompey meet although I haven't heard anything. The Internet's been very quiet on that one. EDIT: Checking the fixtures, it's Pompey v Swansea this Saturday. One gets the feeling I'm going to miss out again, I'm already booked on a railtour and associated moves!

Missed the one in this video due to being on a WMDR blissfully unaware of it going on. It is rather fortunate they managed to find a HST with Short Swing Link bogies throughout to work this, although I'm told it would have been DMUs if any spares had been left (which there wasn't, everything was either OOU on exams or similar or already paired up with other DMUs to provide additional capacity).

I tip my hat to FGW for taking the initiative and providing a HST at very short notice to provide capacity.

I & several other bashers missed it by minutes at Fratton, due to the early departure!

On the subject of 'football specials' I was reading an article about how there plans for them to return like the old days - mostly to keep rowdy football fans off the public network. Surely that would make a good business idea.

Sure would be!

I too have heard of a run tomorrow from Fratton, leaves sometime after 1700 according to a sauce or two...Won't be on it myself, I'm in the North West on a railtour.

Right then for anyone interested:

Fratton 17.26
Port Talbot 21.28
Neath 21.36
Swansea 21.53

The train will stop at Bath for traincrew change.

The train will be formed empty stock (2+7set) from The Marsh departing at 1359 via Bristol TM (1435 dep) and calling at Westbury (1512) Fratton 1709.

ALL TO NOTE: Set is booked to be 2+7, there will not be any catering on board.

And please note it is for football fans only and if you do not look like one, you won't get on.

Been a SCFC fan for years (just never express it), since yonks before they shut The Vetch when I watched a game once there (after that I got too involved in bashing to attend often), but how one can look like a HST basher and a Swansea City supporter...Like I said to TC, surely all you've got to do is be a bit pished, have a beer can/bottle in hand and chanting "Swansea, Swansea, Swansea!" loudly and repeatedly, wearing a white (the colour of Swansea's kit, just you wouldn't be wearing one due to being a cheapskate) shirt?!

Still, it's all swings and roundabouts to me since I'm not there!

this ran pretty much to time, and I saw it bomb through the middle road at newport, say it was quite quiet tbh. The only real problems I heard off were fights kicking off on 1F32 Pompey-Cdf in fareham area lol.

MegaGrr, I assume that was the westbound through road, ie the one nearest platform? If so, that annoys me as it's about it in the Newport area for me to get. :(

Yep it went through line 4 - down relief and back across to the mainline after newport tunnels. :P

lol from platform 4, its 1,2,5,3,4,6 ;) (5 being platform 2 and 6 being platform 1) Platform 4 is effectively the up main, 3 the down main, then the middle roads the reliefs ;)

Will only work if they allow drink on them, otherwise people will go via normal services. But as an away fan myself I think its a brilliant idea.

With the extreme lack of capacity in places (ECML for example) and severe shortage of available rolling stock generally, FootEx trains on a regular basis are unlikely to make a come-back.

Shame, as they'd be uber useful.
