As can be deduced from other postings I have made to this forum I have been travelling monthly between Derbyshire and Cornwall.
The XC section (both ways) is on HST diagrams (by choice) changing at Plymouth onto GWR on the outward journey and Plymouth or Exeter or Taunton (Tiverton once) on the return.
Split ticketing and use of advance tickets means that I have seat reservations. This is practically always coach D (and I am usually booked early enough to get a table seat). As coach D is in the centre of the formation departure from station stops is very smooth, and no Voyager noise and vibration (or smelly toilets). This week however I had an unexpected "upgrade" to first class on GWR between Exeter and Par and return in coach L at the rear of the train. I felt that station departure was more jerky, particular from Bodmin Parkway westbound. Will have to check later today eastbound. Is this normal? Railhead conditions were good.
As an aside, making use of the GWR complimentary drinks and snacks when compared with XC prices meant that I was travelling virtually free. (First class advance with a railcard)
