This may seem random but does anyone have any info about the behaviour of how quickly the amps build up when applying throttle on a 2+8 HST formation when pulling away at very low speeds please?
better still, does anyone have any videos that they could share of this. All I can find on YouTube is very grainy and camera doesn’t focus in on the amp gauge long enough to see the full swoop of the needle movement etc.

any timings, info or videos would be much appreciated.

This will be complex, but as a starter I’ll offer that the train supply runs from the rear power car in normal operation, as such that engine will run at a higher idle speed to generate the required amps, and will presumably increase its amps quicker when under power. This tends to result in a characteristic ‘shove’ from the rear when taking power as the rear power car is slightly ‘ahead’ of the leading power car at moving off.

You get the characteristic 'shove' because the Driver has taken power with brake still in the train!
If anything, the power is dumbed down on the rear power car because it has to provide the train supply although when working on one engine they seemed to go a little better when it's the rear power car that's powering.

Perhaps the perspective is different from (I presume) the front end? :)
