Yesterday I went from Leicester to the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, HST to St Pancras and a Paralympics Ice Lolly waiting at the end of the platform.:D
Quick visit to M&S, two packs of sandwiches £2.70 the two. A nice 12 car Javelin to Ashford then change for Sandling. Waited about 20 mins at Sandling for my free bus ride to Hythe (RH&DR).
The 1330 train to a very windy Dungeness and a half of rubbish Orangeboom lager in the Britannia followed by a quick walk on the shingle beach.
Rain started coming down and the ride back took about 20 mins longer than timetabled because of wet rails, a fullish load and I think a bit of Loco problem.
Two buses to Folkestone Central which must be one of the worst large town stations in the country, and then a great Javelin ride back to STP.
A quick visit again to M&S for a small Indian Chicken and Rice dish washed down with a can of Gin and Tonic and a minature Rose wine, (just over 7 quid).
A 70 minutes dash back to Leicester on the HST and a great day out, £44 for main line and £13 for the RH&DR (great staff) runabout.

Nice trip by the sounds of it! I just love the 395s.

Dungeness is always windy and baron, but that's what makes it brilliant. Did you know it's officially a desert - Britain's only.

I'd agree with you about Folkestone. On certain days, there's a good market in town, but that's it. It's gone downhill a lot recently. There used to be a huge funfair with rides on the seafront and everything, not anymore.
