Recently, I have been finding that occasionally, EMT HSTs have a rather weird fault with their CDL systems - essentially, the lock will open for a split second, then lock again, and if you havent got the door open you're stuck until the TM resets it. Happened to me for the 3rd time in the last 2 months today, and almost was overcarried as the TM hadn't noticed that half the doors hadn't released properly.

Any ideas as to what may be causing this? Would also be interested to find out if it's just one rake with this fault or whether it's a common issue on HSTs more generally :)

I believe it happens because the TM hasn't depressed the cdl release buttons for long enough rather than being an actual fault.

On FGW we get told we have to hold the buttons for five seconds to guarantee unlocking the doors. I have been asked by a passenger "Is that an OCD thing?" as I was counting to five under my breath before letting go of the buttons!

It used to be a trick to quickly "pop" the unlock buttons to just unlock the local door, but we were warned when SDO came in that doing that could fry the SDO system, leaving us in the rather embarrassing situation of having no door locks and having to terminate the train, and all the resulting paperwork & hassle!

Yeah, Don't try to fry the CDL system. CDL Panels are fairly easy to change when you've got a spare one in stock but i wouldn't fancy trying to work though all the Mk3s wiring.

I think you are probably right, it's certainly possible for this to happen. The same thing can occur on a unit, if you're too quick with the buttons then the 'signal' doesn't make it through the train properly.
