Surely on such a short route, time savings could be achieved by ultra-fast accelerating trains? I'm thinking 5-tonne depleted uranium flywheels could be spun-up in each EMU while pax are boarding, then the energy unleashed when the signals go green.hock:
I would not want to be within several hundred metres of a 5-ton flywheel fitted into a vehicle. There's a technical term for something like that
"unexploded bomb"
The energy content of a flywheel that big is every bit as dangerous as an equivalent kilojoulage of aviation fuel. If somehow unseated at high rotor speed it could make a flywheel-shaped corridor through several buildings.
