Worcester was a bit of a poor example to choose, having two separate city stations with services split between them, now joined by a third suburban station, all three having separate hourly services from Birmingham, let alone its own established direct London service to Paddington. It seems unrealistic to pin hopes on yet another service from Moor Street via Bromsgrove, for which tracks don't even exist beyond some crayonista imagination.

More straightforward to consider Wolverhampton, Walsall, Shrewsbury ... all significant regional places, only served (and servable) from New Street.
So back tracking and new tracks that are fully funded in the Bordesley chords?

The services aren't particularly split, and the rural Worcestershire station doesn't have much to do with the city at all. that being said, diverting the Cardiff trains into Moor Street has also been proposed.

There's a clear commitment to build the necessary short chord to move all the Worcester traffic into Moor Street, and indeed the cancellation of most of HS2 means that New Street will be too busy not to move the traffic over.

I guess the Bordesley Chords will open up so many possibilities for the upgraded Moor St that New St is no longer at capacity and is able to increase other services.

May be wrong, but wasn't there talk of some XC services moving over to Moor St?

I think that was the Cardiff to Easy Midlands Turbostars. There's no reason apart from the irritating reversal that anything heading from Derby to the southwest couldn't be sent via Moor Street. Even for Oxford trains you'd only be losing the Coventry call, and you'd be eliminating the single line stretch.

I wish you good luck with building two 20mph, flange-squealing, 1 in 40 gradient curves that demolish half the industry and jobs of Bordesley. Note that as well as getting the (hourly) service a bit closer to HS2, you get it further away from the existing connections at New Street. I wonder which one the passengers prefer.

Why? Its designed with signalling plans already established for the chords and the new platforms at Moor St. You are hardly knocking anything down.

My reply was in response to a post replying to a post which was talking about Curzon Street to Moor Street.
My original post specified connections at New Street, which currently has a 15 minute connection time between trains arriving and departing, whereas I speculated 20-25 minutes might be needed from Curzon St HS2 to New Street.

Bordesley will be up for major renewal/regeneration. Just look how much Digbeth has changed in the last 10 years. Bordesley is a dump, not an industrial/manufacturing heartland.

If the full spec HS2 was delivered, Birmingham would not be the end point and therefore it wouldn't be a huge issue if passengers were split between classic and HS2. IMO if you are going Birmingham to Euston, HS2 will win. From further north and connecting at New St, then New St is highly likely to be best.

Indeed, however it's possible for other related matters to come up, the sub discussion was relating to Moor Street and Curzon Street.

Whilst a bit of a tangent, hardly worthy of a split to a whole new thread.
