What's Thursday got to do with it?

Quite a fair chunk of TPU (the expensive bits) is already funded.
Stuff being already funded means it is prime for being defunded if the Treasury are looking for savings. If it was already subject to contract, that might be a different matter.

As the other poster says, any change in funding will be in the Autumn Statement.

The other poster didn't say that at all, just some vague non-specific allusion.

I guess it's easy to be right when you don't say anything...

The government is quite capable of rewriting funding commitments before delivery contracts are let, and afterwards in extreme cases.
Until then it's just a budgetary figure.
Another tactic is to maintain the spend but over a longer period.
A third situation is where Network Rail blows the funding limit before finishing the job (cf GW electrification).
Thursday will reset the overall budget framework for the next 2-5 years.

Perhaps we are arguing cross purposes here

This is of course, all correct, but it's fairly moot since anything can get defunded, and my original point anyway was that these schemes are not less likely to go ahead, relative to a 'big bang' scheme like HS2, as is the subject of the thread:

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

These things are getting funded so will happen, which is better than nothing. Unlike HS2 East, or the full scale NPR.
