HS2 and Stone

Based on the HS2 document what happens to Stone's (and Alsager, Kidsgrove) much championed direct London services as the document shows the LM services will only run 2 hourly and also only between Stafford and London. Also sucks for Stoke who go from 3 VWC and 1 LM an hour to London down to 1 VWC only and also that one is slow via the WCML.

Your concern is noted, but SOT only have two VWC an hour to London from Manchester looking at todays departure board between 0800 & 0900.

I know that it is a long way ahead and I am not convinced that HS2 will go ahead at all, but what about Sir Richards VWC, surely they will be impacted by HS2?

It's not Sir Richard's VWC that will be affected - that franchise ends in 2012. It may not even be the franchise after that which is affected.

The DfT will build appropriate conditions into the relevant franchise agreements before they let them, just as with the last Thameslink/GN route, and with the upcoming East Anglia (to allow for Crossrail).

Correct - Manchester has three trains an hour to London, but one goes via Crewe and the other two via Stoke

There's no guarantee that *all* trains from London will run on the HS2 lines all the way to their destination (or even that anything will be built north of Birmingham), so we may see some using HS2 as far as Birmingham but then still serving "local" stations like Stoke

I know the area well,have relations there,
kidsgrove is of course a junction, with wires to Crewe & Manchester,it and
Alsager especially are villages,Alsager with two trains per hour each way served by two tocs),Kidsgrove itself a larger village enjoys more, with three tocs using the station, Stone is on a limb with a(LM) bus service from Hanley to Stafford and will be the loser if LM to London trains pull out( all bus only)., joining wedgewood with no trains.
As for the five towns service to London who knows.
