Hi all,

Looking for some help with a question around HS1.

A friend is visiting me in Folkestone tomorrow, travelling from London, on the 'slow' southeastern service (via Tonbridge). They have purchased an advance ticket. Is it possible for them to now purchase an HS1 upgrade on the day and travel on the fast service from St Pancras? Is it affected by the fact they have an advance ticket?

Also, how much does one cost? I could not find this easily online.

Many thanks.

If it is an Advance ticket (and not just a flexible ticket purchased in advance), no changes to the route are possible. The only change that is allowed is to the time of travel (in which case the change must be done before the original journey start time), but any change must have the same route restriction as specified on the ticket.

Thanks, appreciate it

That is officially speaking the rule, but in practice most retailers allow you to change an Advance ticket to any other ticket type that's on sale for the same journey, even if the route code is different.
