HS1 - MML Link Possibility ?

Not sure if this has already been posted elsewhere, but recently there was a BBC article that indicated there have been discussions about getting international trains to Wixams to serve the new Universal park. Here is the article in question.

When Mr Wootton was asked if it was realistic that Eurostar could operate to Bedfordshire, he responded: "Anything is possible...

..."If I say to you now: 'We're building a train station, make sure it's big enough that we can have very large French trains come,' I think that's a possibility. We're just asking for the platforms to be a bit longer."

Obviously basing this on some unconfirmed rumours is not concrete, but would linking HS1 and MML really be that difficult? Presumably signalling upgrades would be expensive, but surely an HS1-MML connection would be much cheaper and simpler than the cancelled HS1-HS2 link would be?

There are two links, reachable from any Eurostar platform. But as they are single line, and cross the other Eurostar lines, they are probably not high volume. The cost of the HS1-2 link was in making it high volume, dedicated.

The primary issue would be that Eurostar trains don't fit on the UK rail network.
