Will the Intercity 225s have an increase or decrease in usage on the East Coast mainline? I've heard that they might go up to Newcastle, but different people are saying that it will be starting from this year, and some saying next.

Also, will the services from Kings Cross to York and vice versa still stand and be pathed as 225s?

Thanks in advance.

Newcastle probably won't happen now.

Initially it was delayed until at least March, and there are some services which will be ammended/won't run until March, but it's unlikely that a 225 set will run to Newcastle even then.

There is broadly similar usage, with four diagrams Mon-Fri and Saturdays; Sunday reduces to four from the current five however.

Workings are very much concentrated on the Leeds/Bradford corridor - there is no longer a midday York turn, but York does still receive a 225 working, albeit late from London (2308) and early morning (0440) back to London.

Welcome to the forum.

There are intended diagrams for the upcoming timetable in the thread here:
but as you’ll see in that thread the Newcastle run is up in the air, as already mentioned.

Then there is also a thread about the 225 set shortening and testing here:

…and a thread about the replacement timetable for the Class 91 here:
