I find the best deals are often - but not always - through such as booking.com or expedia (other providers are available!).
Thank you very much for the tip, I do tend to use Booking.com, although I haven't tried Expedia yet. I tend to use Google Maps to compare accommodation options since it integrates nicely with, well.....Google Maps. Another benefit is that it works as a hotel aggregator

not sure if these have age limits (maybe I shouldn't suggest this but if they do and you are required to give d.o.b. can you make it a year earlier and claim you are 18?)
Well, it's certainly not out of the question for me to do that. I can be asked for ID at check in however, so if I were to try this I would probably either:
a) Ensure that the booking is fully cancellable even during check in time
b) Attempt to book at the hotel in person and make sure there are other options nearby should I be denied
Assuming Scotland is on your radar, prices in both Inverness and Edinburgh are typically very high in July.
Yeah, I might see if I can do one night in Edinburgh (Or another part of Scotland) even if I have to pay a bit extra, as long as the price isn't blatantly extortionate.
What can still happen is you can find somewhere is heavily booked up on one particular night, normally due to an event, wedding or whatever.
I suppose I could have a glance at accommodation options every morning to get an idea of the areas I should avoid.
The one exception seems to be Premier Inn. It seems this is everyone’s idea of a holiday now. I haven’t used them that much since Covid, but when we have we have found the quality has significantly declined, especially cleanliness.
I actually used Premier Inn two weeks ago, nothing exceptional of course but I personally found it perfectly fine, although the breakfast could have been better.
I don’t think you’ll find too much difficulty booking stuff, but you may well need to be flexible with where you stay, especially in higher demand places. Obviously honeypot places are still going to be booked up.
Thats good to hear! Luckily the benefit of being spontaneous with an All Line Rover is that my flexibility would be through the roof, I'm not restricted to a specific city, hell, I can even go to a separate county if the prices and availability there are more favourable. I also have the option of just going home, but that would likely be a last resort. Thank you very much for the advice.
