They used to be; certainly on Southern slam-door stock etc. Nowadays you just tend to see destinations.

You can normally see headcodes on pendolino door panels when they are stopped at stations. Other than that don't think there are many trains that have headcodes shown on them these days.

Only VT Voyagers; XC and EMT use some other number on those screens.

Are you sure it is the headcode? I thought it was just a number that XC use, that wasn't the headcode?

Eg. 'XC1157' (Evidently not a headcode, as second character would be a number)

On a sidenote, I saw a vouyager today with 'Depot' on the front, and 'Plymouth' on the back :P

Are you sure the numbers on Pendolinos/Voyagers are headcodes?

Whenever I've seen them, they've been prefixed with "VT", e.g. "VT1234", like a flight number. I thought they were just Virgin's internal numbers.

Those codes such as VT1234 or XC5678 are RSIDs (Retail Service IDentity numbers).

I have seen Pendo and Vomitor door panels display either the Headcode, eg. VT1M19, or the RSID.

Wasn't that just Virgin pretending to be an Airline, or seeing that the Continentals did that so they decided that they had to emulate them (like TGV4121 or ICE454)? I've never seen anyone ever refer to them, or seen them referred to in announcements or information screens.

When the Voyager designs were drawn up circa 2000, were these screens specified by Virgin (hence why Pendolinos have them) or Bombardier (hence why Meridians have them)?
