Sorry Scot80 but if you need to ask that question with all the info available on this site I wouldn't bother
SPAD I havent been sent anything yet but I have completed my first online assessment. I was just wondering what websites/material i can donwload or purchase to practice as I havent done this before. Some websites I have found seem a little dated and im not sure if they are up to date.What practice material have you been sent?

If you look on this forums it's been covered numerous times there is a thread detailing the new style assessments and what they cover and a link for the GBT tool that allows you to print out random sheets and practice that at home
The GBT is the one a fair majority worry about and if you've applied for southern apparently they require a higher pass mark than others
All the information you require is here you just have to look for it

Oh and TDK is right mate, without sounding harsh, your first question on here was asking for help when it will be clear to everyone who's been here a while that it does not require a great deal of effort to find what your looking for

One bit of advice I will give is if you are even the slightest bit unsure of any instruction you are given on the day of your tests is to ask for clarification & ask again if necessary. Good luck.
GBT is fairly easy really if you don't panic (easier said than done, as I know from experience) just take your time, but not too much time and make sure you're not missing any out - sounds like pretty simple basic advice but you'll be surprised how easy it is to miss some! Also, don't worry about trying to get to the bottom, it's probably safe to say unless you're superman, it isn't going to happen! If you get invited to an assessment centre you should receive practise materials through email that will go through everything.
The best advice is listen to the question on assessment day and realise that a lot of info passed about on this forum is inaccurate. Sorry if I sounded harsh but you really need to be able to solve things out and use your own initiative to even get a sniff at a Trainee Train Drivers job. To add I do not believe that practising the tests gives a true idea on who is suitable for the job however if practising is what you want to do then so be it.

Thanks guys all these tests are new to me, I done an online assessment the other day seemed to go ok just waiting word back, so I want to get practice in just in case
Fear not, you'll be sent practice material well in advance of your tests by the TOC you've applied for! I had mine weeks before and its usually pretty in depth and similar examples to what you'll see on the day! Good luck!
I agree, not all the practice material is that great. The DFFT for example, the training material is a walk in the park, the actual test - a lot different, especially against the clock!
The best bet as you say is to really pay attention to the assessors instructions and if you're not 100% sure, ask!

Very true,I found my DFFT practice paper easy and even the two practice questions on the day of the test but once the test began it was a different matter and when that clock is ticking it isn't long going in,I made a mistake,noticed later on and had to go back and sort out where I was,I got flustered and made a mess in regards to how many I should have answered....I got word back on Fri that I wasn't successful,I am still annoyed at myself because I know I slipped up in something that I thought I could do.

Personally speaking, I answered 10 out of a possible 20 in the DFFT test, that was enough to get me through - I can only assume (don't like doing that) that I either got them all right or at least enough to pass anyhow, the other lads all seemed to be between 8 and 10 so we were pretty much all around the same level. I think it's definitely worth saying it's no good going there with a laid back attitude, the tests are challenging, and rightly so - especially when the clock is ticking but then I guess that's partly what they're designed for, to show you can keep a 'cool' head under pressure and remain focused.

I answered eight but there was only fifteen questions in fifteen minutes,I know I could have got ten answered only for my mistake,I don't know how many I got right,I was confident enough but probably too laid back to be honest with you.
I agree,they are designed to do what you said.
What is the DFFT test, forgive my ignorance to this guys?

Driver Fault Finding Test.
It consists of diagrams of panels in a train,from a power box,blinds,batteries,washers etc.
You are then given information in regards to those and you have to see where the faults are and fill in a report,sometimes there is more than one fault and you have to prioritise.
All the info is there in front of you but it may mean referencing back to the three booklets in front of you....and just to complicate things,the fault you find might have to be changed if it refers you to check something else that may also be causing the problem which would then have a different code to the first one you came to.
Ah I see I think I may have done stuff like this before I've studied electronics in the past sound quite a familiar process

Yeah the test is quite challenging I think from the time aspect of it, you know your against the clock, and the first couple are easy and get you into it, but its when you are finding yourself fault finding two faults, prioritizing those, and if you omit a fault code when there are two faults for example, you don't get 1 point for getting one fault, you get zero for getting it wrong if I remember correctly
