Hello,

I'm conducting some research, and trying to find information on ticket pricing for single and return tickets, particularly out of Canterbury, to other areas in the UK.

Is there any kind of online tool available that people are aware of where I would be able to find this out? Or are there digitised timetables out there that would give this information?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Fares can be found at brfares.com - this is an unofficial resource so it should be used with care. Fares on there may not actually be enabled for retail so whilst it'll list all the fares between, say Canterbury and Peterborough, not all of them can be purchased and not all of them are for the public.

I think the OP is looking for fares from the year 1994 - fairly sure BRFares doesn't have that data!

I have a paper copy of NFM54, from May 1993 (until late 1993), if that is of any use. Not quite 1994, though!

If you have any particular requests, I'll look them up as best I can.

Would the library / reference section of the National Rail Museum at York perhaps have various back issues of the National Fares Manuals for London and the South East? (Great big bulky things!)

Hi Ark!

I can’t find the manual in the catalogue for the NRM Library.

However, the manuals are available at The National Archives in Kew. They are listed as public record. You can make an appointment to visit but you don’t have to.

Hi Ark,

In addition to hornbeampark's excellent find above, if you can't make it to the National Archives in person, you can ask for relevant parts of items to be digitised or copied for you - there will be a small charge, but it will likely be cheaper than travelling to London if you don't live there.

In the first instance you may be best off asking for help at your local library or archives service; some will be willing to request inter-library copies of the pages you are interested in from the National Archives. If you're a student or employee of a university or other body with an academic library service, it's worth approaching them for help accessing National Archive items as well.

If your local library isn't able to help, you can ask the National Archives directly to make copies of the pages you are after at https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/recordcopying/
