How to make a TV documentary (Red Arrows: Inside the Bubble)

Did anyone watch "inside the bubble" last night about the Red Arrows display team? The TV crew followed them for a year, focusing on the 2 new crew members and how they were adapting to their roles.

It was outstanding. They covered all aspects of the red arrows in a professional way, no silly music, no following "personalities" for half the show, just real life in a way that was really interesting to watch.

As I watched it I wondered why the TV companies don't take the same approach with the railway documentaries we are lumbered with. If they did them in the same way the Red Arrows documentary was done last night then they would be 1000 times more viewable. Even my Wife got drawn into the show. It proved to me you can make good interesting TV without all the utter garbage they currently put in. Maybe the RAF had a say in it?

If you haven't seen it yet then I highly recommend it.

I also watched it and was very impressed with the way that it was done.
I also found that when References were made to the late Flt Lt's John Egging and Sean Cunningham, they were made in a deeply respectful manner.
It seems very appropriate that team chose to remember their colleagues in Cyprus and it almost brought a tear to my eye, when they showed a shot of the smoke heart, over the memorial to the fallen reds.
It was a very interesting insight into what goes on behind closed gates at Scampton and Akrotiri, and having been brought up in Lincoln seeing the reds training, I was riveted from start to finish.
I also recommend this very well thought out and executed, true documentary.

hi all,

i also watched it as i am into documentarys like that, it was very professional and i was lucky enough to see the late john egging and sean cunningham in action a month or so before the terrible events that followed and was able to get signed print of all the team they sell at air shows from 2010 on wards, and will see the reds again at the end of august at free air show again

it reminded me on what was on bbc wales year or two back when they followed raf search and rescue in wales at valley and chivenor again very professional i thought, and recored all of them on to dvd yet to do red arrows yet,

I watched it last night on iPlayer and was very impressed, it reminds me every now and again despite some of the crap licence payers money is spent on and their bias news reporting they still know how to make a good documentary, just like 'The Railway' series they did last year.

I watched this program and agree it was an interesting insight into the Red Arrows.

There are plenty of excellent documentaries and all manner of scintillating shows on BBC3 and BBC4 which are often overlooked by viewers.

Raise the licence fee and let's have more of the same
