How to create a SP linespeed?

Entirely possible that the resignalling scheme was asked to provide for a future linespeed increase to 75 without consulting the other disciplines. Happens quite often and allows for the other assets to be upgraded piecemeal over time (in theory)

Another issue when going above 60mph is that the track maintenance standard requires an increase in patrolling. Extra cost of course.

Why are we still relying on people to walk on the line - presumably in daylight either between trains, with its own risks, or by signaller protected blocks in times of low traffic density?

Surely this could be done by maintenance train like the yellow HST or by NR requiring TOCs to fit certain equipment upon their trains to do measurements / provide video footage as they traverse lines in normal service.

Some inspection can be done by the trains, but some can’t. And trains can’t pop a clip back in or tighten a bolt, or clear some rogue ballast from a point blade. Even if they could, you have to run the train more often.
