I'm looking to travel to Ventnor in a couple of weeks. How can I buy the through bus ticket? There's no mention online anywhere I can find!

A cursory glance suggests they’re only available on journeys wholly within the Isle of Wight. Fares can be found on BRFares.com searching for fares between any Island Line station and the destination of “Ventor Bus” (H985), and they can be purchased from any ticket office/commercial guard/etc. I doubt they’re available to purchase online but I haven’t checked.

Thank you. For fear of asking a stupid question, but is the bus...well, a bus? Can you just pay when you get on?

I’m not au fait with the exact set up, but I should expect it’s just a Southern Vectis service bus - their (subjectively expensive) normal fares apply.

You can pay the driver or tap on / tap off with a credit or debit card

Just to point out that the number 2 bus calls at Shanklin railway station, but doesn’t go to Ventnor. The number 3 doesn’t call at the railway station, but does go to Ventnor. The 3 calls at Shanklin bus station, which is a couple of hundred yards away.

I’m afraid the above is completely wrong - it’s the number 3 which calls at the railway station and provides the advertised connection to and from Ventnor as shown in the Island Line timetable. The number 2 doesn’t call at the railway station.

I presume that is so. As the route map is on rather a small scale (and I dont go down that far) I checked with the information office in Newport bus station: what I wrote is what they told me.

They should check their own website, which is quite clear! Mind you, there are so many temporary route dversions at the moment that it must be hard to keep up.
